AASHISH

Project Aashish is a social initiative of VCC. It all began in 2011, with caring for HIV/AIDS patients & their families. VCT Project Aashish has since grown to provide medical, educational, physical and emotional support to children from slums, to TB patients and the women living in the old age care home. 

All Project activities are conducted by employed social workers and volunteers of VCT. 

  • Project Aashish provides protein rich groceries (5.25 kg) to families with HIV/AIDS patients every month.

  • Protein powder is also provided to children with HIV infection.

  • Full educational support is extended directly to schools of children from HIV affectedand infected families every year.

  • Nutritional Support to TB Patients:

  • In Collaboration with VVCMC Urban Health Posts, VCT provides protein rich groceries (5.25 kg) to TB patients every month. The support is provided for as long asthe patient is under treatment.

  • Apart from rations, VCT also provides counseling, encouragement to the patients & their families.

1. Care for HIVAIDS patients & their family: 

  • In Collaboration with VVCMC Urban Health Posts, VCT provides protein rich groceries (5.25 kg) to TB patients every month. The support is provided till the Patient is under treatment.

  • Apart from rations, VCT also provides counseling, encouragement to the patients & their families.

2. Nutritional Support to TB Patients: (150 patients a year)

  • Every Sunday a Conversational English Class is conducted for the children in the slum in Vasai. Besides, the good values of life are also inculcated in the children through English teaching.

  • The parents especially the mothers come after the children’s class to seek solutions to family problems.

  • When needed, VCT has also helped the needy families with medical care

3. Weekly Conversational English class to slum children(On an average 25 children in each session)

4. Emotional support to women living in Old Age Home: A team of volunteers visits the Old Age Home for women every Friday (25 women)

  • They give a listening ear to the women who don’t have anyone to visit and talk to.

  • Provide practical care like clipping of nails, combing hair or applying body lotion to those who need it.

  • Engage them with simple activities that can give them joy like games, singing,  painting their nails, reading magazine and newspapers to them etc.

  • During the Lockdown, VCT volunteers travelled in Vasai-Virar region to provide monthly rations to families of patients suffering with HIV,TB and also those who lost their livelihood due to the pandemic. One such community of 60 families engaged in selling on the beachofArnala likeballoon sellers, water bottle sellers, food stalls, barbers & plastic waste collectors on the beach.

  • Financial supportextended to distribute food packets to migrant workers who were rendered jobless.

5. Ration supplies to families facing unemployment and hunger in lockdown due to COVID 19 pandemic(281 families):
